We will meet in the parking lot across from Ingleside Village Pizza (their former location). Please bring gloves, trash bags, rakes, brooms, shovels, battery operated yard equipment, etc.and lots of energy. We hope to see you there!

The Vineville Neighborhood Association is an active organization open to all residents of the Vineville Historic District and to anyone interested in the preservation of the area as an economic and social asset of Macon. Founded in 1978, the VNA was responsible for collecting the necessary data on neighborhood homes for consideration as an historic district by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood achieved this status in 1980.

Our association covers an area that stretches roughly from the Georgia Academy for the Blind on Vineville Avenue to I-75 and from the Midtown Kroger on Pio Nono Avenue to Ingleside Avenue. Elected board members reside in and represent all areas of the neighborhood. Committee volunteers dedicate time, interest, and effort into outreach and social activities.
Currently, the VNA has several objectives:

-To welcome new residents to the neighborhood and make them feel included
-To protect the integrity of the neighborhood and ensure it is a safe and wonderful place to live
-To host social activities to allow neighbors to get to know each other and build a sense of community
-To publish a bimonthly newsletter to inform members about current neighborhood issues, initiatives, and upcoming events
-To promote the Vineville Historic District area as a special place to live in Macon

Neighborhood Cleanup
Saturday, May 5, 2012, 9-10 am
Location: Corner of DeSoto Place and Vineville

We will clean on Vineville toward the Blind Academy. Please bring gloves, trash bags, rakes, brooms, shovels, battery operated yard equipment, etc and lots of spirit! *We would like to discourage people from bringing children since we will be working on a high traffic street. Afterwards we will meet in Lars Anderson's front yard (163 Rogers Avenue) for celebratory libations - in honor of Cinco de Mayo of course. Nos vemos allí!

Neighborhood Cleanup Days usually take place on the first Saturday of each month. Please join us! It's always a good workout, great fellowship with neighbors and a wonderful positive service to the neighborhood. Items always needed include rakes, shovels, trimmmers, edgers, brooms, trash bags, etc. Wear your yellow VNA T-Shirt if you have one. Hope to see you there!

On cleanup days please bring rakes, brooms, gloves, trash bags, trimmers, other yard tools, and some well-honed elbow grease. We look forward to seeing you!

*And, oh yes! - keep in mind that many a late Saturday morning, after everyone has had a rowsing, character building, stress relieving effort of community pride and camaraderie, the neighborhood cleanup "First Saturday Club" participants have been known to reconvene at a nearby neighbor's home, banded together in the fading morning hours, rejuvenated and reconstituted as the "Set Your Spirits Free Pre-Noon Belters Club," a post power hour happy hour of appreciation and gratitiude for everyone's well-disciplined efforts.

Every other month, the women of VNA host a relaxed, fun get together to see old friends, meet new friends and enjoy good company. Communications ( ) – Assists with various aspects of preparing and mailing the bimonthly Historic Vineville Gazette newsletter. Help is needed from writing articles to putting on labels.

Historian (Jim Weldon) – Selects a monthly home to feature in the newsletter and on the web site based on the appearance of the house and yard. Takes photos and write articles about the monthly selection.

Ladies Night Out (Leslie Walton) — Plan and coordinate bimonthly LNO events, which are casual, friendly drop-in events with neighbors and good food. Opportunities for the women of VNA to host a relaxed, fun get together to see old friends, meet new friends and enjoy good company. VNA provides the beverages, and the women bring hors d'oeuvres or desserts to share.

Membership (Lars Anderson) — Maintains the VNA membership database and all aspects of membership from collection of dues to identifying new residents and preparing and distributintg welcome packets to new neighbors.

Neighborhood Cleanup (Barbara Stevens) – Plans and implements a cleanup in a different area of Vineville the first Saturday of each month. Publicizes the cleanup in the newsletter and on the web site. Creates and distributes a flyer to residents in the area where the cleanup will be held to encourage their participation and to solicit new VNA memberships.

Properties (Ron Lemon) – Monitors the Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission and Historic Design Review Board hearings so that any items of concern to the Vineville Neighborhood are addressed. Also handles issues such as property code violations and safety issues.

Social (Susan Griffin and Paul McClelland) – Plans and implements social events throughout the year. Help also is needed to take photos of events for the newsletter and the web site and to create and handle the printing and mailing of postcards to VNA members about events.

Web Site (Neil McArthur) - Maintains the VNA web site.

Yard Sale (Paula Haralson & Leslie Willingham) – Plans and implements the VNA’s main fundraiser for the year. Help is needed to help pick up yard sale items, get donations of new items from Ingleside Avenue merchants, handle publicity, price items, lineup volunteers to work the day of the sale, handle refreshments for sale at yard sale and for volunteers and to pick up and return tables for the yard sale.

Easter Egg Hunt

VNA will provide the Easter Egg Hunt complete with refreshments and a visit from the Easter Bunny! Neighborhood children of all ages are welcome to come and join in the fun and pose for pictures with the Easter bunny. Parents - don't forget your cameras!

Each Spring an Easter Egg Hunt with a visit from the Easter Bunny is planned and organized within the neighborhood to permit children and families an opportunity to celebrate this fun tradition. The younger children have their own area to search ensuring opportunities for all to be successful, while the trail blazing older children are provided a much larger berth to roam and collect.

A Spring Fling Party is organized and hosted in March, April or May of each year at one of the association member's homes. VNA furnishes all meat and beverages, while members are asked to please bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share. Members are encouraged to come enjoy the festivities and bring a new neighbor with you if you can. Please plan for a baby-sitter for this event and come have some fun!

The Vineville Neighborhood Association publishes the Historic Vineville Gazette to report on recent and upcoming events, community awareness, spotlight on historic homes in our neighborhood, neighborhood cleanup activities, resident news, updates from the President, and more.

Members of the association automatically receive an annual print subscription of the newsletter. Memberships run from January to December each year. A current VNA membership/renewal form is available here. Thank you for your interest in our neighborhood!

The potluck dinner and meeting will include the installation of 2012 VNA officers and board members, a guest speaker, and voting on bylaws changes and 501(c)3 status. All Vineville residents and children are welcome to attend and join VNA!

The VNA Annual Membership Meeting and Covered Dish Dinner takes place during January or February each year to combine good food and fellowship with the election of new officers and board members.

After visiting with neighbors over dinner, the annual meeting is conducted by the outgoing president, followed by the election of new officers and board members. Afterwards, those in attendance are often asked to write down issues they would like to see addressed in the coming year so the new board can establish priorities.

Association members are encouraged to sign up and particpate on one of the committees in the coming year to help ensure the success of all association events and activities. Participation builds a connection to our community, fosters neighborly spirit, and provides a sense of satisfaction through time and effort well spent. It is good to remember that board officers, board members and committee members provide their time and effort on a purely voluntary basis.

*The 2011 VNA Annual Membership Meeting and Covered Dish Dinner took place this year on Thursday, January 20, from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Fellowship Hall, 390 Pierce Avenue. This year's meeting featured Pat Madison, Executive Director of the College Hill Alliance speaking on "What VNA & Ingleside Can Take from the College Hill Experience."

New residents are supplied with welcome packets and information about the historic community into which they have moved.

We also work together to ensure the neighborhood and its surroundings are properly represented in local politics and key initiatives. We strive to ensure education, safety, and that neighborhood preservation is upheld and constantly improved.

Santa Claus Visit

Santa visited the beautiful Vineville neighborhood home of Jim and Amy Stallings on Friday, December 9 from 6-7 pm. Thanks Jim and Amy! Their home provided a lovely setting for families and children of the neighborhood to visit with Santa and take photographs of their children with Santa. As always, parent's were strongly encouraged to bring their cameras!

Each year Santa makes a stop at the Vineville Historic District to visit with the friendly families and children of the neighborhood and enjoy the charm and comfort of one of the beautiful neighborhood homes. Festive snacks are served and parent's are encouraged to bring their cameras in order to take photographs of their children visiting with Santa.

The VNA Annual Holiday Party was held on December 8, 2011 from 7-9 pm at the beautiful home of Maura and Scott Pipkins at 2048 Vineville Avenue. Thanks Maura and Scott!

VNA provided turkey, ham and beverages and members were asked to bring side dishes, desserts and lots of holiday spirit to share. This was an opportunity for all adult members of VNA to enjoy good fellowhip and comraderie in the absence of children. *Parents were reminded to make arrangments for the care of your children.

Each year members of the Vineville Neighborhood Association collectively donate and host a neighborhood yard sale as a fundraiser for the association. This is a wonderful way to share those items no longer needed in your household, put them to good use for others, and find good deals for yourself on furniture, clothes, office equipment, books, household goods, and collectibles.

Please be thinking ahead about items you can donate for next year's 2011 yard sale to support the association.

Beverages, bratwurst and fellowship provided by VNA. Please bring a complimentary side dish or dessert to share. This party is an event for the whole family, children are welcome. No children? Please invite a new or old neighbor to enjoy this neighborhood event. Polka dancing is never required, but may be contagious.

Each Fall an Oktoberfest party is organized and hosted at the home of one of the association members. For the past several years VNA has been fortunate to have Lars and Annette Anderson host this wonderful event.

Beverages and bratwurst are provided by VNA, while members are asked to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share. This party has become an Autumn classic and is thoroughly enjoyed by all who attend. Polka dancing is not required, but may be contagious. This is a child and family friendly gathering.
